Clara Graves

It was in 1999 that I began to paint on silk. I was immediately captivated by the magnificent and warmly brilliant colors that danced across the silk as I painted. I had no previous painting experience and my early efforts were as likely to be stumbles as successes. Fortunately I was able to take classes with wonderful teachers who gave me the technical tools and encouraged me toward the creative freedom that I craved.

For me life is about exploration, expansion and always learning and growing. I love the medium of dye on silk and have experimented with many techniques on it. Whether lost in the deep concentration needed for my more representational work or painting my abstracts, I am always filled with joy as I watch what is happening on the silk and then deciding where the work is asking me to go.
