Zita Simutis
I am descended from generations of women fiber artists, but
I never thought of us as such until recently. My mother, my
aunt, and grandmothers were always working on a project with
their hands: mostly sewing, sometimes knitting and even making
their own spectacular hats to match the garments they made.
Since I was a young girl in Chicago I have always done some
form of fiber arts - knitting, embroidery, sewing, and needlepoint.
After retiring from federal civil service as a research psychologist,
I knew I wanted to work more seriously in fiber arts. I found
the Potomac Craftsmen Guild and expanded my repertoire to
including felting and dyeing.
I find my greatest joys and creativity in learning about
and combining fiber arts techniques, especially when the basis
of the art is wet felting.
