Christine Sinclair
Artist Statement
Growing up in Scotland, I was surrounded by a talented and
creative family. Influenced by my uncle, a ceramics teacher,
and many women in the family being dressmakers, and tailors.
I would be encouraged to use many mediums. Whenever a birthday
was approaching a hand made gift was needed, without fail
I would be making things from beaded necklaces to ceramics
to tie dye t shirts.
At 10 years of age my grandfather introduced me to the wonderful
world of knitting. He had been hospitalized during the war
and as a patient, was given the job of knitting socks and
blankets for the troops.
College and work led me into the world of business then at
age 25 I married and emigrated to the USA. Since successfully
selling my ceramics business in 2004 I have been concentrating
full time on fiber art. Exhibiting and selling my creations
here and in Scotland, studying for the City and Guilds felting
certificate and taking classes in the community from renowned
fiber artists.
My fiber art business Bagzthat was established in 2006. Designing
and creating felted and knitted scarves, bags and other products.
Some pieces have been influenced by my Scottish heritage and
the landscapes that always amaze me whenever I return home.
Bagzthat pieces can be found in a few local boutiques, on
the web at www.bagzthat.com
and on etsy.
My mother was always the one to accept the "I made it myself"
gift with great enthusiasm. That enthusiasm kept me going,
and still to this day when someone admires my work it's a
wonderful feeling to hear their appreciation. Thanks Mum.
